Getting started

Requirements

The WordPress and PHP versions Folderline needs, who can use folders, and what it works with.

Versions

Minimum
WordPress 6.5
PHP 7.4

Folderline doesn't need WooCommerce or any other plugin. It works with the block editor and the classic editor, on single sites and on multisite networks (each site has its own folders).

Who can use folders

Anyone who can upload files: by default authors, editors and administrators. Contributors and subscribers don't see the folder panel.

Everyone on the site shares the same folders. People can only move files they're allowed to edit: an author can put their own uploads in folders, an editor or administrator can move anyone's. The settings page (Media → Folder Settings) is for administrators.

Browsers

The folder panel uses drag and drop, which works in every current desktop browser. Every action also has a way that doesn't need dragging (the folder menu, the Folder field in a file's details, and the Move to folder bulk action), so touch screens and keyboard users can do everything too.

Big libraries

Folderline is built for large Media Libraries. Folders are a WordPress taxonomy, file counts come from the counts WordPress already stores, and opening a folder is a normal database query. Thousands of files and hundreds of folders are fine.
