Troubleshooting
What to check when a discount doesn't apply, shows the wrong price, or a rule needs Discountline Pro.
A discount doesn't apply
Work through these in order:
- Is the rule on? In Marketing → Discount rules, its status should be Active. Off means it's a draft: use Turn on.
- Does it cover the product? Check Applies to, including the exclusions and Exclude items that are already on sale. A product with a WooCommerce sale price is skipped when that box is ticked.
- Does the cart qualify? A quantity discount needs the first tier's quantity, counted the way Count quantities says. An order discount needs the minimum spend, counted on covered products after item discounts. Minimum items needs that many covered items.
- Is a coupon in the way? A rule set to turn off when a coupon is used stops while one is applied, and a coupon marked "Individual use only" keeps order discounts out.
- Does another rule win? Discounts don't stack: each item gets one item discount, each order one order discount. With Give customers the biggest discount, a smaller one never shows while a bigger one applies.
The shop shows the regular price, but the cart is discounted
That's expected for:
- Quantity discounts, which depend on how many are in the cart (the product page shows the price table instead);
- rules with Minimum items, which can only be judged with a cart;
- any product discount while Sale prices is turned off in the settings.
If none of these apply, clear your page cache: caching plugins and hosts can keep showing the old price.
"Needs Discountline Pro"
The rule uses a rule type (Buy X, get Y; Free shipping) or a condition (customer roles, order history, lifetime spend, countries, payment methods, dates, days, times, usage limits) from Discountline Pro, which isn't active. The rule is kept exactly as it is, but doesn't apply.
Why not apply it without the condition? A condition only ever narrows who gets a discount. Dropping it would hand the discount to everyone: trade prices to every shopper, a happy hour all day, an ended sale back on. Holding the rule back is the safe choice.
You can:
- Activate Discountline Pro: the rule works again as before.
- Keep the rule without the Pro conditions: open it, tick Remove those conditions when I save in the Rule type box, check the Summary, and update. (Only offered for Discountline's own rule types.)
- Change the type: for a Buy X, get Y or Free shipping rule, pick one of the types shown and set it up again.
The order discount shows a code
Order discounts are WooCommerce coupons behind the scenes. The classic cart and the Cart and Checkout blocks show the rule's name instead; a theme or plugin that builds its own cart may show the code. Give the rule a clear Display name: its code is made from the name when the rule is first saved.
