Getting started

Licenses and updates

How the Discountline Pro license works, how updates arrive, moving a license to another site, and what happens when it expires.

Note

This is part of Discountline Pro.

Your Discountline Pro license comes from Lemon Squeezy, the store that handles the purchase. It's what lets your site download Discountline Pro updates.

Activating

Under Discountline Pro on the Plugins screen, paste the key from your purchase email and click Activate. See Installing Discountline Pro for the full steps.

An All Access key works too: it covers every Extendiment plugin. Enter it under each plugin you use; on one site they all share a single activation, so a 1-site key covers every plugin on that site.

The box under the plugin shows where things stand:

The box says Meaning
Enter your Discountline Pro license key… No key yet. The plugin works; updates can't be installed.
License ••••••••ABCD is active on this site, with updates until (date). All good.
Your license has expired, so updates have stopped… Renew, then activate again.
This license has been disabled… Contact us.
This license is no longer active on this site… The activation was removed, for example from your Lemon Squeezy account. Activate the key again.

If activating fails, the reason is shown next to the button, such as an unknown key or a key that has reached its number of sites.

Updates

Updates work like those from WordPress.org. WordPress checks for a new version of Discountline Pro along with your other plugins, shows it on the Plugins and Dashboard → Updates screens, and installs it when you click Update now. View details shows what changed. You can also turn on Enable auto-updates for Discountline Pro on the Plugins screen.

Updates come from extendiment.com, and only download while your license is active on the site. Without an active license, WordPress can still tell you there's a new version, but the update fails with a message that the package isn't available.

Tip

Update Discountline (from WordPress.org) and Discountline Pro together. A new Discountline Pro may need a newer Discountline; if Discountline is too old, Discountline Pro shows a notice and turns its features off until you update it. Your rules are kept either way, and rules that need Pro are held back meanwhile.

When the license expires

Discountline Pro keeps working. Your buy X get Y and free shipping rules, conditions, limits, countdowns, nudges and the tester all stay, and shoppers see no difference.

What stops is updates: WordPress can still tell you about a new version, but can't install it. Renew the license from the link in your Lemon Squeezy emails. The site checks the license once a week, so the box shows the renewal within a week; to see it straight away, enter the key and click Activate again.

Moving to another site

A license key can be active on as many sites as your purchase allows. To move it:

  1. On the old site, click Deactivate license under Discountline Pro. This frees the activation. (With an All Access key, deactivate it under every Extendiment plugin there: the activation is freed with the last one.)
  2. On the new site, enter the key and click Activate.

If the old site is already gone, you can remove its activation in your Lemon Squeezy customer portal, or contact us and we will free it.

Deleting Discountline Pro and choosing Delete it permanently in its deactivation prompt also frees the activation.

Staging and development sites

Staging and local sites don't count toward the sites your key allows. Activate the key there as on any site; the Plugins screen then says it's a staging site. Each key gets three of these. Extendiment tells them apart by the site's address: a staging, dev or test subdomain or folder, a .local or .test address, a local address, or your host's staging domain. Beyond three, a staging site counts like any other.

You can also leave the license inactive on a staging copy: the features work without it, only updates don't download there.

Notices from Extendiment

Now and then Discountline Pro shows a short notice from Extendiment at the top of the dashboard, to admins who can manage plugins: a security update to install, or a sale on All Access. Close one with its × and it stays closed, for every Extendiment plugin on the site. A security notice has no ×: it goes once the update is installed. These notices come with the update check, so nothing extra is sent.

What's sent, and when

The license check sends only your license key, the plugin's name and your site's address, and only to extendiment.com, which checks the key with Lemon Squeezy. It happens at three moments: when you activate the license, when you deactivate it, and once a week to check it's still valid.

To find updates, WordPress asks extendiment.com for the latest Discountline Pro version, with the answer kept for 12 hours. That request includes the installed version, your site's domain, and the WordPress, WooCommerce and PHP versions, plus the license key in a request header while the license is active. Nothing about your products, orders, customers or discount rules is ever sent.
