Buy X, get Y
Give extra items free or at a discount, per product or across matching items, once or for every full set.
Note
This is part of Discountline Pro.
A buy X, get Y rule gives customers extra items free or at a discount once they buy enough: "Coasters: buy 2, get 1 free", "Buy any 2 candles, get the cheapest half price".

Set it up
- Add a rule and choose Buy X, get Y.
- Customer buys: how many items the customer pays for, e.g. 2.
- Customer gets: how many more items they get at a discount, e.g. 1.
- Discount on those items: 100% makes them free; 50% half price.
- Count items:
- Per product: each product counts on its own ("buy 2 mugs, get a mug"). Variations of a product count together.
- Across all matching items: any covered items count together ("buy any 2, get the cheapest").
- Repeat for every full set: ticked, 6 items make two sets (buy 4, get 2); unticked, the deal applies once per order.
- Choose the products or categories in Applies to, and publish.
The Summary box describes the deal as you go: "Buy 2, get 1 free. Counted per product; the cheapest items are discounted. Repeats for every full set."
How it applies
The customer adds the items themselves: a set is buy + get items in the cart, e.g. 3 coasters for "buy 2, get 1". In each set, the cheapest items are the discounted ones.
The saving is applied automatically, like an order discount, and listed by the rule's name in the cart, at checkout and on the order. It can apply together with an order discount and with item discounts (worked out on the discounted prices); when several buy X, get Y rules qualify, the order gets one.
What shoppers see
- A badge next to the price of covered products: "Buy 2, get 1 free", or your own text.
- A nudge in the cart when they're one set short: "Add 1 more Wool Felt Coasters to get it free." See Countdowns and nudges.
