Troubleshooting
What to check when the Bulk Editor doesn't load, a change won't save, or a column or post is missing.
The grid stays on "Loading…"
The grid loads through the WordPress REST API. If it never appears:
- Reload the page. Your login may have expired; WordPress asks you to log in again.
- Look for an error notice above the grid. A message such as "Sorry, you are not allowed to do that." means your role can't edit these posts.
- Check the REST API. Go to Tools → Site Health. A security plugin, firewall or server rule that blocks
/wp-json/requests also blocks the grid. Allow requests to/wp-json/sheetline/for logged-in users. - Check JavaScript. Sheetline needs JavaScript; a notice says so if it's off. Your browser's console may show an error from another plugin's script that stops the page.
A cell turns red when I save
The reason is shown under the cell. Fix the value and save again, or Discard. The most common ones:
- "You can't publish, schedule or make private posts of this type." Your role can only submit posts for review. Choose Pending review.
- "A post can't be its own parent, or the parent of its parent." Pick another parent.
- "Choose one of the options." The option was removed since the page loaded (a deleted author, for example). Reload the grid.
- "(Name) is editing this post right now." Someone opened the post after you loaded the grid. Save again once they're done.
- "You can't edit this post." Your role can't edit that post.
The rest of your posts were saved. Only the post with the red cell wasn't.
A cell is greyed out
You can't change it: the post belongs to someone else, it's open in the editor, or your role can't change that field. A dash means the post doesn't have that field. See Editing cells.
A column is missing
- It may be hidden: open Screen Options and tick it. Slug, Excerpt, Comments, Sticky, Order, Format and Template are hidden at first.
- Format only appears when your theme supports post formats, and Template when your theme has page templates.
- A column from another plugin appears only while that plugin is active.
A post is missing
- Check the search box and the filters above the grid: they stay set until you change them.
- Trashed posts aren't listed. Restore them from Posts → Trash.
- Private posts of other people are only listed for people who can read them.
Saving is slow
Each post is saved through WordPress, which also runs every plugin that reacts to saves. Saving hundreds of posts at once can take a while on busy shared hosting. Save in smaller batches, or show fewer posts per page.
Changes don't show on the site
The grid saves straight to the post; check the post's edit screen to confirm. If the site still shows the old version, clear your caching plugin's or host's cache.
Still stuck?
Temporarily switch to a default theme such as Twenty Twenty-Five, with only Sheetline active. If the grid works there, the difference is another plugin. Ask in the Sheetline support forum on WordPress.org, with what you see and any message on the screen. Sheetline Pro customers can also contact us through extendiment.com.
