Using Adminline

New and removed plugin items

What happens to your menu when you install, update or deactivate plugins.

Your saved menu lists every item it knew about when you saved it. Plugins come and go, and Adminline keeps up without disturbing your order.

A plugin adds an item

An item your saved menu doesn't know appears where its plugin put it: after the item that comes before it in the plugin's own menu, wherever you moved that item. In the editor it's marked New until you next save the menu.

Nothing else moves, so the menu people are used to stays as it was. Open the editor now and then to place, rename or hide new items.

A plugin is deactivated

Its items leave the menu, for everyone. Your changes to them (names, icons, places, hiding) are kept, and come back when the plugin is activated again.

If you had moved one of your other items into that plugin's menu, it goes back to its own place in the meantime, with its changes.

A plugin renames an item

Items are recognised by their address, not their name, so a plugin update that renames an item keeps your changes. If you gave it your own name, your name stays.

A plugin changes an item's address

Rarely, a plugin update changes where an item leads. Adminline then sees an item that's gone and a new one: the old one's changes wait in case it comes back, and the new one appears marked New.
