Troubleshooting

Options that don't show, totals that don't update, prices that look wrong, and fields marked "Not shown in your shop".

The options don't show on the product page

  • The product type: only simple and variable products have options. Check the Product data dropdown.
  • Not saved: fields are saved with the product, so click Update after adding them. A field without a label, or a dropdown, radio buttons or checkboxes field without choices, isn't saved.
  • The theme: Optionline adds its fields where WooCommerce's add-to-cart form has its woocommerce_before_add_to_cart_button hook. Classic themes and block themes' Add to Cart blocks have it. A theme or page builder that draws its own add-to-cart button without WooCommerce's form won't show them; switch to the theme's WooCommerce template or the Add to Cart block.
  • Out of stock: WooCommerce doesn't show the add-to-cart form for products that can't be bought, so the options aren't shown either.
  • "Not shown in your shop" on the field's box: see below.

A field says "Not shown in your shop"

The field was set up with Optionline Pro: one of its types (such as a date or file upload), a condition on when it shows, or a Pro price type (a percentage, a price per character, a price charged once per line). Optionline Pro isn't active, so Optionline can't show or price the field the way you set it up.

Rather than showing it to every customer and charging a flat price for it, Optionline keeps the field, with all its settings, but leaves it off the product page and out of the cart. Customers can still buy the product without it.

To get it back, activate Optionline Pro. You can also remove the field, or change it to use only Optionline's own types and prices.

The total doesn't update, or doesn't show

  • The totals only show when at least one option costs something.
  • For a variable product, the total shows "–" until the customer has chosen a variation.
  • The live total needs JavaScript. If a caching or optimization plugin combines or delays scripts, exclude optionline/assets/js/frontend.js. The cart is always priced on the server, whatever the page showed.

The price in the cart looks wrong

  • An option's price is added for each item: two items with a $5 option add $10. See Prices.
  • Option prices are entered like your product prices, with or without tax. If your store enters prices without tax but shows them with tax, options are shown with tax too.
  • Another plugin that changes cart prices (a dynamic pricing or discount plugin) may run before or after Optionline. Optionline adds its prices to whatever price the product has when the cart is loaded.

"Select options" shows instead of "Add to cart"

The product has a required option, so customers must choose it on the product page. Make the field optional if the product can be bought without it.

"Engraving is a required field." although the customer filled it in

The store checks the options on the server. If a browser extension or a script that adds products to the cart (a quick view, a "buy now" button) sends the form without the options, the product is refused. Use the product page's own add-to-cart form.
