Price types
Percentages of the product's price, prices per character and per unit, and prices charged once per cart line.
Note
This is part of Optionline Pro.
Optionline charges a flat amount for each option, for each item. Optionline Pro adds two settings to every field: Price type (how the price is worked out) and Charge (for each item, or once).
Price type
| Price type | The price means | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Flat amount | An amount, as in Optionline. | Gift box (+$5.00) |
| Percentage of the product's price | A percentage of the product's price (the chosen variation's, for a variable product). For a field with choices, each choice's price is its percentage. | Rush (+25%) on a $40 frame adds $10 |
| Per character | An amount for each character typed; spaces and line breaks aren't counted. Text and text area fields. | Engraving (+$0.50 per character): "ANA BEN" adds $3.00 |
| Per unit | An amount times the number entered. Number fields. | Width in cm (+$0.20 each): 150 adds $30.00 |
A Quantity field is always priced per unit: its price times the number chosen.
Only the price types that fit the field's type are offered in the list.
Charge: for each item, or once
- For each item (times the quantity), the default: the option's price is added to every item. Two frames with a $5 gift box cost $10 more.
- Once per cart line, whatever the quantity: the price is added to the cart line once. A $15 logo setup on 50 printed mugs costs $15, not $750.
Once-only prices show as "(+$15.00 once)" in the cart and on the order, and "(+$15.00 once per order line)" on the product page. In the cart, WooCommerce spreads them over the line's items, so the line's total is right whatever the quantity.
On the product page
The live Options total and Total follow every price type: they work out percentages from the chosen variation's price, count characters as they're typed, and add once-only prices once.
Taxes
Amounts (flat, per character, per unit) are entered like your product prices, with or without tax, and shown the way your store shows prices. Percentages are of the product's price as entered, so they follow the same tax setting.
Without Optionline Pro
If Optionline Pro is deactivated, a field with a Pro price type or charged once is kept, but not shown in your shop: Optionline won't charge it as a flat amount for each item, which could overcharge or undercharge. It's back when Pro is active again.
