FAQ
Short answers to common questions about Searchline.
Does Searchline slow my site down?
A search looks its words up in Searchline's index instead of reading through every post. On the front end, Searchline adds one small script and stylesheet for the dropdown (only when the dropdown is on). Building the index runs in the background, in batches, and keeping it current takes a moment after each save.
Does it change searches in the admin?
No. The admin's list screens and WooCommerce's product pickers keep using WordPress's own search.
Will it work with my theme?
Yes, with block themes and classic themes. Searchline answers the search WordPress already runs, so your theme's search page, WooCommerce's templates and the search blocks all show its results. See Requirements.
Does it work with HPOS and on multisite?
Yes. Searchline doesn't touch orders, so it works with High-Performance Order Storage and the older posts storage. On multisite, each site has its own index, settings and report.
Does it work in other languages?
Yes. Typos, synonyms, redirects and "did you mean" work in every language, and accents don't matter. Matching plurals and other word forms ("boots" finds "boot") is for English sites only.
Can visitors search by SKU?
Yes, including each variation's SKU, with or without its dashes. SKUs are always matched exactly, never through a typo, so a search for one SKU doesn't bring up a similar one.
Do I need WordPress.org or an account anywhere?
No. Searchline is sold on extendiment.com and installed from its zip file. It needs WooCommerce, nothing else.
What happens when my license expires?
Searchline keeps working: every feature stays. Only updates stop until you renew (see Licenses and updates).
Does it store visitors' personal data?
No IP addresses and no accounts. The search report keeps the words searched for, and leaves out searches that look like an email address or a phone or card number. See Privacy.
What happens to my data if I delete Searchline?
When you click Deactivate, Searchline asks what should happen to its data if you then delete the plugin: keep it (the default) or Delete it permanently when the plugin is deleted. Deleting removes the Searchline settings, synonyms and redirects, the search index, the search report, the "Hide from search results" choices and the license. Your products, posts and pages are never changed, and deactivating alone never removes anything.
