Searchline banner

WordPress searches for the exact letters a visitor types, in the title and text only. A search for a SKU, a plural, a typo or a word your products don't use finds nothing, and you never hear about it. Searchline keeps its own search index of your products, pages and posts, finds the right products despite typos and plurals, shows results while visitors type, and tells you which searches found nothing so you can fix them in one click. It works in WooCommerce's and WordPress's own search pages and blocks, and is set up under WooCommerce → Searchline.

Searches that find the right products

  • Searches products with their SKUs, categories, brands, tags and attributes, including each variation's SKU and attribute values, plus pages, posts and any other public content type you choose.
  • Custom fields from ACF, Meta Box and Pods are offered as checkboxes; any other custom field can be typed in. SEO titles, descriptions and focus keywords (Yoast SEO, Rank Math, SEOPress, All in One SEO) are searched too.
  • Choose how much each place counts: title, SKU, categories and brands, tags, attributes, short description, description, custom and SEO fields.
  • Typos are forgiven: one in words of 4 letters or more, two in longer words. Exact matches always come first, and SKUs, words with digits and short words are only ever matched exactly.
  • On English sites, "boots" finds "boot" and "mugs" finds "mug". "t-shirt" finds "tshirt", and SKUs match with or without their dashes.
  • Every word, or any word: when nothing has all of three words or more, the results missing one word are shown.
  • "Did you mean" when a search finds nothing, for the words your catalog doesn't have, and only when the suggestion finds something.

Synonyms and redirects

  • Two-way synonyms ("sofa, couch, settee") and one-way synonyms ("tee => t-shirt, top"), one rule per line.
  • Redirects: a search for "returns" goes straight to your returns page. "Goes to" finds pages, posts, products and product categories as you type, or takes a path or a full web address.
  • Edit redirects in the list, delete them one at a time or in bulk, and undo a delete.

Results while you type

  • A dropdown under the search box: products with their image, price, stock and badges, then pages and posts, and a link to all results.
  • Add simple products to the cart from the dropdown. Its buttons use your theme's button style and WooCommerce's adding and added states, with a View cart link.
  • On every search form, or only on the "Searchline search" and "Searchline product search" blocks and the [searchline] shortcode.
  • Works with the keyboard and screen readers.
  • A limit of live searches per visitor and minute protects your server. The visitor's IP address is never stored.

The same results everywhere

  • The search results page, WooCommerce's product search, the Product Collection and Query Loop blocks, the Product Filters blocks' counts, and the product blocks that search through the Store API.
  • Only what each visitor may see: private content, hidden products and other plugins' access rules still apply. Products set to "Shop only" or "Hidden" in WooCommerce's catalog visibility are never in search results.
  • Leave out-of-stock products out of search results, and hide any product, page or post from search results with a checkbox in its Publish box.
  • Admin searches and WooCommerce's product pickers are left to WordPress.

The search report

  • What visitors search for, how often, how many results each search found and how often a result was clicked.
  • Views for All, Found nothing, Fixed and Ignored searches, sortable columns, a search box and a choice of period.
  • Fix a search without leaving the page: hover it and choose Add synonym or Redirect, or add Searchline's close match in one click.
  • Ignore searches that are noise, one at a time or in bulk. They are still counted, under Ignored.
  • No IP addresses, no accounts. Searches that look like an email address or a phone or card number are never kept. Counts are deleted after the number of days you choose (90 by default).
  • Suggested text for your privacy policy, and WordPress's personal data export and erase tools, which include ignored searches.

The index

  • Built in the background when you activate Searchline, and kept up to date whenever something is saved, a product's stock changes or a category is renamed.
  • The Index tab shows what is in it and when it was last built, with a button to rebuild it and a progress bar while it builds.
  • A Help tab on every Searchline tab, with how synonyms are written and how redirects match.

Works with other Extendiment plugins

  • Fileline's downloads are searched when Fileline is active, Optionline's option labels and choices when you tick them, and Labelline's labels show as badges in the dropdown.

For developers

  • WP-CLI: wp searchline index, status, search and clear.
  • Actions and filters for what is indexed, the words and post types searched, ranking, synonyms, redirects, the dropdown's results and the search report. searchline_loaded fires once Searchline has loaded.

Searchline is sold on extendiment.com/plugins/searchline under our Terms and Privacy Policy. The license key brings updates; every feature works without it.
