Getting started
Requirements
The WordPress, WooCommerce and PHP versions Giftline needs, what it works with, and where it keeps its data.
Versions
| Minimum | |
|---|---|
| WordPress | 6.5 |
| WooCommerce | 8.2 |
| PHP | 7.4 (8.1 or later recommended) |
Giftline is tested with the latest WordPress and WooCommerce releases.
Works with
- Checkout: the Checkout block and the classic shortcode checkout, and the classic cart. Both checkouts have the gift card field, the store credit choice and a row in the totals for each balance used.
- Order storage: High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS) and the older posts storage.
- Payment methods: any. A gift card or store credit pays part of the order, and the customer pays the rest with any payment method your store offers. When balances cover the whole order, there's nothing left to pay.
- Coupons: they work on everything else in the cart, but never discount a gift card product.
- Extendiment plugins: Packboard and Gridline. See Working with other plugins.
- Currency: cards and credit are in your store's currency.
Where Giftline keeps its data
- Balances in two database tables of its own: one row for each gift card and each customer's store credit, with its balance, and a history entry for every change (bought, spent, returned, refunded, changed by staff, expired, cancelled).
- Settings in one WordPress option, and the license in another.
- Gift card products: their amounts are product meta.
- Orders: the balances an order spent, and the cards a gift card line created, are order meta, so they stay with the order.
- Gift card emails with a delivery date as scheduled actions in WooCommerce's Action Scheduler (Tools → Scheduled Actions, group
giftline), one per card, and a daily job for expiry, reminders and history clean-up.
Orders and products always stay. Deleting the plugin can remove the rest: see FAQ.
Multisite
Giftline can be activated per site or network-wide. Each site has its own gift cards, store credit, settings and license.
