FAQ

Short answers to the questions store owners ask most about Checkoutline.

Does Checkoutline work with the Checkout block?

Yes. In the Checkout block your fields are WooCommerce's own additional checkout fields, so the block shows, checks and saves them itself. The classic checkout gets the same fields.

Does it slow down my checkout?

No. The Checkout block draws your fields itself, and the classic checkout gets them as ordinary WooCommerce fields. Checkoutline adds no scripts or styles to the checkout.

Can a field be required?

Yes: tick Required on the field's screen. A required checkbox must be ticked.

Can a field show only for some orders?

Not in Checkoutline itself: an enabled field shows on every checkout. Fields that only show for some products, shipping choices, countries or answers are part of Checkoutline Pro.

Can I check that an answer has the right format, like a VAT number?

Checkoutline checks that required fields are filled in. A format to match, with your own error message, and a maximum length are part of Checkoutline Pro. A developer can also add a check with the checkoutline_value_problem filter; see Filters and hooks.

Will my fields still be there if I change themes?

Yes. Fields are stored by Checkoutline, not by the theme, and they appear wherever WooCommerce's checkout does.

Can customers see and change their answers later?

They see them on the order confirmation, in My Account on the order's page, and in their order emails. Contact and address answers are filled in again at their next checkout, where they can change them. Answers on a placed order can be corrected by you on the order screen.

Are answers included in order exports?

They're saved as WooCommerce's own additional checkout field values (order meta such as _wc_other/checkoutline/gift_message), so exports that include order meta or WooCommerce's additional fields include them.

What happens to my data if I delete Checkoutline?

When you click Deactivate, Checkoutline asks what should happen to its data if you then delete it. Keep it (the default) and your fields, your changes to WooCommerce's fields and customers' answers are all there if you install Checkoutline again. Choose Delete it permanently when the plugin is deleted to remove them when you delete the plugin. Your orders and customers themselves are never deleted.

Can I translate Checkoutline?

Yes, on translate.wordpress.org. The labels of your own fields are what you type, in whatever language your store uses.
