# Kits made from other pools - Stockpool 1.x documentation

> Build a pool from other pools, sell it made to order (taking the parts) or made ahead (assembling kits in advance), and nest kits.

> [!NOTE]
> This is part of **Stockpool Pro**.

A kit is a pool made from other pools: a gift wrap of one box, two sheets of tissue and 30 cm of ribbon; a sampler of three teas. Link products to the kit like any pool, and change the recipe in one place.

## Making a pool a kit

1. Open or create a pool on **Products → Shared stock**.
2. In **Made from other pools**, tick **This pool is a kit made from other pools**.
3. Add each part: the pool and what **each kit uses**, such as 30 cm of Satin ribbon.
4. Choose how kits are stocked (below), then **Save pool**.

## Made to order

The kit has no stock of its own. Each sale takes the parts: one gift wrap takes a box, two sheets and 30 cm of ribbon.

- The kit's **Stock** box shows how many the parts **can make**, and which part runs out first.
- Products linked to the kit are limited by the parts, in the cart and at checkout, like any pool.
- The stock history is on the parts, where the stock is.

## Made ahead

The kit has its own stock, like any pool: you pack kits in advance, and each sale takes a finished kit.

Under the stock adjustment, choose **Assemble**, enter a number and save: that many kits are made, taking their parts. **Take apart** does the reverse, putting the parts back. Each move is logged on the kit and on every part (*Kits assembled*, *Kits taken apart*), and Stockpool Pro refuses to assemble more kits than the parts allow.

## Kits in kits

A part can itself be a kit, up to three levels deep: a holiday hamper made of two gift wraps and a candle. Stockpool Pro refuses a part that would make a kit contain itself, directly or through another kit.

## Changing the recipe

Change the parts and save. Orders already placed keep the parts they actually took, so cancelling or refunding them returns stock to those parts, not the new recipe's.

## Kits or several pools on a product?

For a single product they're the same: a product can take a box and tissue directly. A kit is worth it when several products use the same recipe (change it once), when you want to see how many the parts can make, or when you pack kits ahead.

## If Stockpool Pro is deactivated

The parts stay saved, but Stockpool sells a kit from its own stock rather than its parts: a made-ahead kit sells its finished kits as before, and a made-to-order kit (whose own stock is usually 0) shows its products as out of stock rather than selling parts it can't take. The pool's page says so. Activate Stockpool Pro and kits take their parts again.
