# Menu visibility - Roleline 1.x documentation

> Show menu items only to logged-in users, logged-out visitors or chosen roles.

> [!NOTE]
> This is part of **Roleline Pro**.

With a classic theme's menus (**Appearance → Menus**), every menu item gets a **Show to** setting:

1. Open the menu and expand an item.
2. Under **Show to**, choose Everyone, Logged-in users, Logged-out visitors only, or Only these roles (and tick them).
3. Click **Save Menu**.

On the site, hidden items are left out of the menu, and so is every item under them. For example, a "Members" item for logged-in users can hold the members' pages, and a "Log in" item can be for visitors only.

## Block themes

Block themes build menus with the Navigation block instead of Appearance → Menus. There, select a link in the Navigation block and use its **Visibility** panel: see **Block visibility**.

## Good to know

- Hiding a menu item doesn't protect the page it links to. Restrict the page itself (see **Content access**).
- The Customizer's menu panel doesn't show the setting; use Appearance → Menus.
- Settings are stored as the menu item's `_roleline_pro_visibility` meta.
