# Frequently asked questions - Preorderline 1.x documentation

> Short answers about payments, stock, releases, translations and removing Preorderline.

## Do customers pay for a pre-order at checkout?

Yes, like any order, with any of your payment methods. To let customers pay when the product is released, or pay a deposit now and the rest later, you need Preorderline Pro, a separate paid add-on. See [extendiment.com/plugins/preorderline](https://extendiment.com/plugins/preorderline).

## Can a product take pre-orders only while it's out of stock?

Not in Preorderline: "Not released yet" takes pre-orders until you release the product. Taking pre-orders whenever a product runs out of stock is part of Preorderline Pro.

## Are pre-orders released automatically on the release date?

No, you release them, from **WooCommerce → Pre-orders**, the product's Pre-order tab, a single order's **Order actions** or Packboard. Automatic release on the date is part of Preorderline Pro.

## Can I limit how many units can be pre-ordered?

Not in Preorderline. Pre-order limits per product or variation are part of Preorderline Pro.

## Does it work with my payment gateway?

Yes. Preorderline doesn't change how customers pay; it only changes where the order waits afterwards.

## Can I edit a pre-order?

Yes, like any order: from the order screen while it's Pre-ordered. A line you add to it is a normal line unless the order is placed again through checkout.

## What happens to my data if I deactivate or delete Preorderline?

Deactivating never removes anything. When you click **Deactivate**, Preorderline asks what should happen to its data if you later delete the plugin:

- **Keep it** (the default): everything is still there if you install Preorderline again.
- **Delete it permanently when the plugin is deleted**: products' pre-order settings, the release dates on orders, the texts and the emails' settings are removed when you delete the plugin.

Either way, orders still Pre-ordered are moved to **On hold** when you delete the plugin, each with a note giving its release date and whether the customer has paid, because WooCommerce doesn't know the Pre-ordered status without Preorderline. The Deactivate prompt tells you how many there are; release them first if you can.

Your orders and products themselves are never deleted. Preorderline Pro's settings belong to Preorderline Pro, and are kept or removed by its own prompt.

## Can I translate Preorderline?

Its screens and emails are translated on [translate.wordpress.org](https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/preorderline/), and WordPress installs the language packs for you. The texts you set yourself (button, availability and product messages) are saved as you type them; on a multilingual site, translate them with your translation plugin's string translation.
