# FAQ - Folioline 1.x documentation

> Short answers to common questions about Folioline.

## Is Folioline tax advice?

No. Folioline issues invoices and credit notes, checks VAT numbers and adds up your figures, from your WooCommerce tax rates and the settings you choose. Which rates apply, what your invoices must show and how long you keep them depends on your country: check with your accountant or tax office.

## Does Folioline send e-invoices to my customers or a tax authority?

No. Folioline makes the files: a Factur-X / ZUGFeRD e-invoice inside every PDF, and XRechnung and Peppol BIS files when you choose them. It attaches them to WooCommerce's emails and lets you and your customers download them, so your customer or accountant can upload or archive them. It doesn't connect to Peppol or any other e-invoicing network or government portal. See [E-invoices](e-invoices).

## What happens when VIES is down?

Under **WooCommerce → Folioline → VAT → When VIES is down** you choose: take VAT off and check the number again later (the default), or charge VAT and check it again later. Folioline then checks the number again on its own over the next day and notes the answer on the order. The order's totals never change after it's placed. See [VAT numbers and reverse charge](vat-numbers-and-reverse-charge).

## Can I change an invoice after it's issued?

No. An issued invoice is frozen: changing the order, a product or your settings later never changes it, and it can't be deleted. Correct it with a credit note, by refunding the order or the wrong part of it. See [Credit notes](credit-notes).

## Can I delete a test invoice?

No: deleting one would leave a gap in the series. Test on a staging copy of your site, or set **First invoice number** so your real invoices start after the tests, and correct test invoices with a credit note.

## Where are the PDFs stored?

In `wp-content/uploads/folioline/`, one folder per year. Web access to the folder is blocked, so the files only reach people through emails, My Account and the admin screens. Each file is made once and kept as the archive copy; if one goes missing, Folioline makes it again from the frozen invoice, with the same content. A buyer reference typed on the order later gives the invoice new e-invoice files with it, and the earlier ones are kept. Include the folder in your backups.

## Does Folioline slow my site down?

No. At checkout it adds the VAT number field, a small script for the Checkout block and one VAT number check when a number is entered; answers are kept for a while, so the check isn't repeated on every page. PDFs are made only when an invoice is first emailed or downloaded, then reused. The list, registers and reports load only in the admin.

## Does it work with the Checkout block and High-Performance Order Storage?

Yes. The VAT number field and reverse charge work in both the Checkout block and the classic checkout, and invoices work with High-Performance Order Storage and the older posts storage.

## Does Folioline set up my tax rates?

No. Tax rates stay in **WooCommerce → Settings → Tax**, and Folioline prints what WooCommerce charged. It takes VAT off for business customers with a valid EU VAT number, and leaves everything else to WooCommerce.

## What happens while Folioline is deactivated?

Invoices already issued, and their files, are kept. While Folioline is inactive, orders get no invoices, the VAT number field is gone from the checkout and VAT isn't taken off for business customers. When you activate it again, VAT numbers still waiting for a check are checked again; use **Issue invoices** on the orders list for orders paid meanwhile.

## What happens when my license expires?

Folioline keeps working: every feature stays, and invoices go on being issued. Only updates stop until you renew (see [Licenses and updates](licenses-and-updates)).

## What happens to my data if I delete Folioline?

On **Deactivate**, Folioline asks whether its data should be kept, the default, or removed when you delete it. Removing it deletes every invoice and credit note, their PDF and e-invoice files, the number series and the settings, and frees the license activation. Orders, with their VAT numbers and check results, stay.

> [!WARNING]
> Most countries require you to keep invoices for years. Before you choose to delete the data, download everything under **WooCommerce → Invoices**: a ZIP of the PDFs (and e-invoice files) from the **Documents** tab, and the registers from the **Registers** tab. Deleted invoices can't be brought back.
