# Members-only downloads - Fileline 1.x documentation

> Downloads only logged-in visitors can get, and how visitors are taken to log in and back.

In a download's **Access** box, tick **Members only** and update the download.

- Visitors who aren't logged in see the button with a note: "For members: log in to download."
- Following the button (or the link from anywhere else) takes them to the login page. After logging in, they're sent straight back to the download, which starts.
- Anyone logged in can download it, whatever their role. To allow only some roles, use Fileline Pro's **Only these roles**.

Members-only downloads still appear in download lists and have their own page, so visitors can see what's there.

> [!TIP]
> Members come from your site's own accounts. To let visitors register, tick **Settings → General → Anyone can register**, or use your membership plugin's registration page.

## Unavailable downloads

If a download shows **Unavailable** in the Downloads list, it has access rules from Fileline Pro (an email address required, some roles only, or a password) and Fileline Pro isn't active. Fileline can't check those rules, so rather than letting everyone download it, visitors are told it isn't available at the moment.

To fix it, activate Fileline Pro again; or, if you don't use Fileline Pro any more, open the download and tick **Remove these rules and let everyone download it** in its Access box.
