# WooCommerce's own fields - Fieldline 1.x documentation

> Rename WooCommerce's address fields, or make them optional, required or hidden, in both checkouts and My Account.

Below your own fields, **WooCommerce → Checkout Fields** lists WooCommerce's address fields: first name, last name, company, address, address line 2, city, state, postcode and phone.

## Renaming a field

Type a new label next to the field, for example "Surname" for **Last name**, and click **Save changes**. Leave it empty to keep WooCommerce's label.

WooCommerce changes some labels by country: the postcode is "ZIP Code" in the United States and "Postcode" in the United Kingdom, the state is "County" or "Province". Your label replaces all of them, so choose one that works for every country you sell to.

## Optional, required or hidden

Choose how each field shows under **Show**:

- **As WooCommerce has it**: WooCommerce decides, country by country. This is the default for most fields.
- **Optional**: shown, but customers can leave it empty.
- **Required**: customers must fill it in.
- **Hidden**: not shown, and not asked for.

A few things to know:

- **Company, address line 2 and phone** use WooCommerce's own settings for them (the same ones as in the Customizer and the Checkout block's settings), so the choice here and there is always the same. They don't have "As WooCommerce has it".
- In a country where WooCommerce hides a field, it stays hidden. Some countries have no postcode or state, for example; making the postcode required won't add one there.
- Hiding a field WooCommerce needs for shipping, such as the postcode or city, can make shipping rates or taxes wrong. Check your shipping zones after hiding an address field.

## Where the changes apply

Everywhere WooCommerce shows these fields:

- the Checkout block, including its address forms,
- the classic checkout, also when the customer changes country,
- **My Account → Addresses**.

The email address and the country can't be renamed or hidden: WooCommerce doesn't allow it.
