# Order discounts - Discountline 1.x documentation

> Money off the order once it reaches a minimum spend, applied automatically.

An order discount takes money off the whole order once the customer spends enough: "Spend $150, save 10%", "$15 off orders over $100".

## Set it up

1. Add a rule and choose **Order discount**.
2. In **Discount**, choose **Percentage off** or **Fixed amount off** and the amount.
3. Set the **Minimum spend**. It's counted on the products the rule covers, after any item discounts.
4. Optional: limit the rule to some products or categories in **Applies to**. The minimum spend then only counts those products, and only they are discounted.
5. Publish.

## How it applies

- **Automatically.** As soon as the cart reaches the minimum spend, the discount appears; if the customer removes items and the cart no longer qualifies, it goes away.
- **By name.** The cart, checkout and order show the rule's display name ("Spend $150, save 10%"). Customers can't remove it, in the classic cart or the Cart and Checkout blocks.
- **As a WooCommerce coupon behind the scenes**, so taxes, the order record and WooCommerce's reports treat it like any other discount. Each rule gets its own code, made from its name, which never clashes with one of your real coupons. If you later create a coupon with a rule's code, the coupon wins and the rule stops applying; **Duplicate** the rule to get a copy with a new code.

When several order discounts qualify, the order gets one: the biggest, or the first by priority (see **How discount rules work**).

## With your own coupons

Your WooCommerce coupons keep working next to automatic discounts. Two exceptions:

- A coupon marked **Individual use only** keeps the order to itself: automatic order discounts step aside while it's applied.
- A rule with **Turn this rule off when the customer uses a coupon** (in its **Advanced** box) stops while any of your coupons is applied.
