# Installing Discountline Pro - Discountline 1.x documentation

> Upload the Discountline Pro zip, activate it next to Discountline, and enter your license key.

Discountline Pro is an add-on: it adds rule types, conditions and tools to Discountline, which stays installed and keeps doing everything else. You need both.

## Before you start

- **WooCommerce** and **Discountline** 1.0.0 or later, installed and active. If you don't have Discountline yet, install it from **Plugins → Add New Plugin** (search for "Discountline"); see **Installation**.
- The **discountline-pro.zip** file and the **license key** from your purchase email. Both are in the email Lemon Squeezy sent after you bought Discountline Pro.

## Install and activate

1. Go to **Plugins → Add New Plugin** and click **Upload Plugin** at the top.
2. Choose `discountline-pro.zip` and click **Install Now**.
3. Click **Activate Plugin**.

WordPress won't activate Discountline Pro while Discountline or WooCommerce is inactive; it lists what's missing instead. Activate those first.

## Enter your license key

Back on the **Plugins** screen, there's a box under Discountline Pro:

1. Paste the license key from your purchase email.
2. Click **Activate**.

The box turns green and shows the end of your key and, for a yearly license, the date your updates run until. See **Licenses and updates** for moving the key to another site.

> [!NOTE]
> The features work as soon as the plugin is active, with or without a license. The license is what lets WordPress download updates.

## Check it works

Go to **Marketing → Discount rules** and click **Add discount rule**. The Rule type box now offers **Buy X, get Y** and **Free shipping**, and there is a **Customers and schedule** box. **Marketing → Test discounts** is new too.

## While Discountline Pro isn't active

Rules that use Discountline Pro's features stay saved. Discountline holds them back (they show **Needs Discountline Pro**), and as soon as Discountline Pro is active again they apply, with their results, and nothing to re-enter.
