# FAQ - Discountline 1.x documentation

> Short answers about coupons, variations, taxes, translations and what happens to your data.

## Do customers need a coupon code?

No. Every rule applies automatically once the cart qualifies.

## Can discounts add up?

No. Each item gets one item discount, and each order one order discount: the biggest for the customer, or the first by priority. An item discount and an order discount can both apply.

## Does it work with variable products?

Yes. A rule for a product covers all its variations, a rule can cover single variations, and quantity discounts can count all variations of a product together.

## How are taxes handled?

Item discounts change the item's price, and order discounts are WooCommerce coupons, so WooCommerce works out the tax the same way it does for sale prices and coupons.

## Do discounts show in WooCommerce's reports?

Order discounts show as coupons, by their code. Item discounts show as lower item prices; each order line also records the rule and the price before the discount.

## Does it change my products' prices?

No. Your regular and sale prices stay as they are. Turn a rule off, or deactivate Discountline, and the regular prices are back at once.

## What does Discountline Pro add?

Buy X, get Y and free shipping rules; conditions for customer roles, first or returning customers, lifetime spend, shipping countries, payment methods, dates, days and times of day; countdowns; cart nudges; usage limits with each rule's results; and a discount tester. See [extendiment.com/plugins/discountline](https://extendiment.com/plugins/discountline).

## Can I translate Discountline?

Yes, on [translate.wordpress.org](https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/discountline/). The template is also included as `languages/discountline.pot`.

## What happens to my data if I delete Discountline?

When you click **Deactivate**, Discountline asks what should happen to its data if you then delete the plugin. Keep it (the default) and your rules and settings are still there if you install Discountline again. Choose **Delete it permanently when the plugin is deleted** to remove them, with the rule details on order lines, when you delete it. Your orders, products and coupons are never deleted, and order lines keep the discount name your customers saw.
