# FAQ - Depositline 1.x documentation

> Short answers to common questions about Depositline.

## Can I use Depositline for layaway?

Yes. Set a deposit (for example **Deposit required** at 20%), give the balance a due date far enough out under **Balance due**, and let the reminders do the rest. Stock is reduced as soon as the deposit is paid, so the item is set aside for the customer. See [Setting up deposits](setting-up-deposits).

## Does it work with the Checkout block?

Yes, and with the classic checkout. Both show the deposit choice, the "Balance, paid later" line and the saved-card checkbox. Depositline also works with High-Performance Order Storage.

## Which payment methods can charge the balance automatically?

Cards saved with the WooCommerce Stripe Gateway. With any other payment method, customers pay the balance through the emailed payment link or **Pay balance** in My Account, with any payment method your store offers. See [Collecting the balance](collecting-the-balance).

## Can customers pay the balance early?

Yes. The payment link and **Pay balance** work from the moment the balance order is made.

## Can a balance be split into several payments?

No. Each sale has one deposit and one balance.

## What if another deposits plugin is active?

Depositline pauses while WooCommerce Deposits, Deposits & Partial Payments for WooCommerce or YITH WooCommerce Deposits / Down Payments is active, and says so in the admin. It takes no deposits and collects no balances then. Deactivate the other plugin to use Depositline. See [Working with other plugins](working-with-other-plugins).

## What happens to balances while Depositline is deactivated?

Nothing is collected: no reminders go out and no cards are charged. When you activate it again, the reminders are scheduled again from where each balance was, and orders whose balance was paid in the meantime move on to Processing.

## Does Depositline slow my site down?

On the front end it only works out the deposit when the cart's totals are calculated, and adds a small script to the checkout page. Reminders and charges run in the background through WooCommerce's scheduled actions.

## What happens when my license expires?

Depositline keeps working: every feature stays. Only updates stop until you renew (see [Licenses and updates](licenses-and-updates)).

## What happens to my data if I delete Depositline?

On **Deactivate**, Depositline asks whether its data should be kept, the default, or removed when you delete it. Removing it deletes the Depositline settings, the deposit settings on products, variations and categories, and the scheduled reminders, and frees the license activation.

Orders, including deposit and balance orders, are never deleted. Orders still **Partially paid** keep that status in the database; without Depositline, WooCommerce no longer lists it by name, so change those orders' status by hand first.
