# Answers on orders and emails - Checkoutline 1.x documentation

> Where customers' answers show up, how to correct one on the order screen, and how they're stored.

Every answer is saved with the order, whichever checkout placed it, and shows up in the same places WooCommerce shows its own fields.

## On the order screen

Open the order under **WooCommerce → Orders**:

- **Contact fields** and the **billing address's** answers are in the **Billing** column.
- The **shipping address's** answers and **order fields** are in the **Shipping** column.

To correct an answer, click the pencil next to **Billing** or **Shipping**, change it, and click **Update** for the order.

## For the customer

- On the **order confirmation** page after checkout, under **Additional information**.
- In **My Account → Orders**, on the order's page.
- In WooCommerce's **order emails**, both to the customer and to you, HTML and plain text.

A ticked checkbox reads "Yes"; an unticked one isn't listed. A dropdown answer shows its label, not its value.

## Orders from either checkout

In the Checkout block, WooCommerce saves and lists the answers itself. WooCommerce only lists these fields for orders placed through the Checkout block, so for classic checkout orders, and orders you create by hand, Checkoutline lists them in the same places and the same way. An order reads the same whichever checkout placed it.

Checkoutline also lists answers WooCommerce leaves out: on a Checkout block order, a field you've switched off since, or one that can't show at checkout right now (see **Troubleshooting**), is listed by Checkoutline instead, so no answer disappears from view.

## On the customer's account

Answers to contact and address fields are also saved on the customer's account, so a returning customer finds them filled in. Order fields are saved on the order only.

## How answers are stored

Answers are order meta under WooCommerce's own keys for additional checkout fields:

| Section | Order meta key |
|---|---|
| Contact information, Order | `_wc_other/checkoutline/{key}` |
| Billing address | `_wc_billing/checkoutline/{key}` |
| Shipping address | `_wc_shipping/checkoutline/{key}` |

That means other plugins that read WooCommerce's additional checkout fields, such as order exports, see them too. See **Filters and hooks** for reading them in code.
