# Import and export - Adminline 1.x documentation

> Keep a copy of your menu, or use the same menu on other sites.

Building the same menu for every client site? Make it once, then export it.

## Export

Go to **Settings → Admin Menu → Tools** and click **Download export file**. You get a JSON file named after your site and the date, with your whole menu: order, names, icons, moves, links, separators and hiding. If Adminline Pro is active, its settings are in the file too.

## Import

1. On the other site, go to **Settings → Admin Menu → Tools**.
2. Under **Import**, choose the export file and click **Import**.

The file replaces that site's menu settings. Items from plugins the site doesn't have are kept aside, as if those plugins were deactivated: they appear, with your changes, if the plugin is installed later. Items the site has that the file doesn't know appear where their plugins put them, marked **New**.

Roles are matched by their names (slugs), so hiding from "Shop Manager" carries over to any site where WooCommerce is active.

If the file has Adminline Pro settings but Adminline Pro isn't active on the site, the menu is imported and a notice says the Pro settings weren't. Activate Adminline Pro and import the file again to bring them in.

> [!NOTE]
> Importing checks the file the same way the editor checks your changes: anything that isn't valid is left out. A file that isn't an Adminline export, is larger than 1 MB, or has settings in the wrong shape is refused, and nothing on the site changes.
