# Client mode - Adminline 1.x documentation

> A simpler admin for the people you build sites for, and menu changes for one person at a time.

> [!NOTE]
> This is part of **Adminline Pro**.

Clients don't need Screen Options, Help tabs or a stream of notices from plugins they never chose. Client mode tidies all of that away for the roles you pick.

## Turning it on

On **Settings → Admin Menu → Client mode**:

1. Tick the **Roles in client mode**, such as Shop Manager or Editor.
2. Choose what changes **For them**:
   - **Hide the Screen Options tab** at the top right of admin screens;
   - **Hide the Help tab**;
   - **Hide notices from other plugins**: notices from WordPress itself (such as "Post updated") stay;
   - **Start with the admin menu collapsed to icons**: until the person expands it themselves, with **Expand Menu** at the bottom of the menu.
3. Click **Save Changes**.

Client mode never applies to administrators (people who can manage options), even if their role is ticked.

Pair it with Adminline's menu editor (hide what the role doesn't need) and the **Dashboard** tab (their own widgets) for an admin that feels made for them.

## Menu changes for one person

Sometimes one person needs something the rest of their role doesn't: the shop's owner may need Analytics, which you hid from Shop Managers. Under **Menu changes for one person**:

1. Click **Add a change**.
2. Choose the **Person** and the **Menu item**.
3. Choose **Shown** or **Hidden** for them.
4. Click **Save Changes**.

A change for one person wins over their role's setting on the Menu tab. A hidden item follows that item's own "hidden only" or "hidden and blocked" choice. Adminline's own screen and Plugins are never hidden from administrators, even here.

People's own changes are listed by their display name and username; a change for someone whose account is deleted is dropped.
